Context:
ARPA Investments, a real estate developer, will be closing their deal on the purchase the BUF property a year from now and said that they will likely start developing the property two years from now. This leaves uncertainty for the future of BUF and investing more in the property in terms of infrastructure.
The KFPC Team has reflected on transitioning the BUF program to be more of a community partner to host educational opportunities and workshops instead of doing the work to farm and maintain the land, as part of our upstream advocacy efforts.
The KFPC has a history of founding programs that benefit our community and can be handed off as a sustainable program for front-line service organizations, such as Gardengate, and Kamloops’s community gardens. We are ready to step back from the frontline work of BUF into a support, advocacy, and community connector role in relation to the BUF property. We are seeking insight from community partners to find a new steward for the property in hopes that BUF can continue to be a productive community food resource.
