In partnership with the Kamloops Food Bank/Action Centre
This highly successful food recovery program collects and distributes food that would otherwise have ended up in a landfill. The food comes from generous business donors in the area that have food they cannot sell.
The FoodShare truck runs 7 days a week to pick up food from local donors which is brought not only to the Food Bank but also to more than 30 schools and agencies in the Kamloops area. Any food that cannot be used by these agencies is given to local farmers for use as pig feed or compost.
The program, while contributing to increase the local food supply, also contributes to a better environment by reducing unnecessary waste. Since the start of the program in 2006, almost two million pounds of fruits, vegetables, bakery, dairy and meat items were recovered through FoodShare.
