About Us

The Kamloops Food Policy Council (KFPC), established in 1995, has emphasized public education on food security issues as well as initializing concrete food system projects. The KFPC acts as an umbrella organization to provide opportunities for advocacy groups to partner and co-ordinate their work.

We rely on outside funding to get new programs started and running smoothly, then we look for a local “host” organization to take over the running of the program, due to our limited resources. This model has worked very well over the last 20 years, pushing Kamloops to the forefront of Canadian food advocacy.

We are a group of passionate volunteers who dedicate ourselves to improving the food system in Kamloops. A key component of the KFPC’s identity is our monthly networking meetings; we meet on the first Wednesday of each month at the Mt Paul United Church (140 Laburnum St) for a potluck dinner to share ideas and spread enthusiasm for local food. Any one is welcome to attend these meetings, consider attending if you don’t already!

A few of the members include Interior Community Services (Community Gardens & Kitchens), Fraser Basin Council, Kamloops Farmers’ Market, Thompson-Shuswap Master Gardeners, Open Door Group’s Gardengate program, among many others.

We hope to see you at our next meeting!
